Hot Chocolate and a Winter Wonderland

Thank God it´s winter!

Isn´t this amazing?! I love love looove winter so much. The snow caught me by surprise yesterday afternoon during my 3rd and final drivers lesson. I was on my way to the top of the mountain (Kahlenberg) in Vienna when suddenly the snow started to fall. All of the sudden it was hard to see anything and I couldn´t go faster than 20 km/h. While I satrted to panic just a little bit my teacher was getting comfortable in his seat right next to me and was so calm that it frightened me. How could he have such trust in me when I was sitting in the drivers seat only for the third time?! But him being so trustworthy made me feel more comfortable as well, so we went up the mountain parked the car and threw some snowballs on the street signs.

It was so cold and crisp and so romantic how the snow laid the white furry winter coat around the cities shoulders. All I could think of was getting some hot hot cocoa and snuggling in with my favourite person in the world – my husband 🙂

There´s nothing bette on a cold winter day than hot cocoa and that´s why I will show you 5 of my all time favourite recipes for the best hot cocoa in the entire world! With these recipes you won´t get cold this winter and maybe you have someone to share it with – this way it tastes even better 😉

  1. The regular kind

This is the typical regular kind of hot chocolate. It is rather simple and you can´t mess it up even if you wanted to. All you need is:

  • 2 Tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 – 2 Teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 30g semisweet chocolate
  • 300 ml whole milk
  • 1/2 Teaspoons of vanilla sugar
  • Marshmallows (you can either buy some or make them yourself)

To make the hot chocolate you need to heat up the milk. When the milk starts to get hot you can put in the cocoa powder, add the chocolate, vanilla and brown sugar. Keep stirring so that nothing sticks to the bottom when everything has disolved and it is hot enough pour it into your favourite cup and add the marshmallows on top. Be careful when you take a sip – you don´t want to burn your mouth 😉

2. Chilli Hot Chocolate

  • 2 Tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 – 2 Teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 30g semisweet chocolate
  • 300 ml whole milk
  • half a chillipepper
  • whipped cream
  • Sprinkles

For this spicy deliciousness you will need to heat the milk and add the chilli pepper. Add the cocoa powder, the brown sugar and the chocolate. cook it for a bit and keep stirring constantly. Then take a sieve and pour the hot cocoa through it in the cup so that the chilli pepper remains in the sieve. Now all you need to do is top it off with some whipped cream and put some sprinkles on top.

3. Irish Hot Chocolate

  • 2 Tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 – 2 Teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 30g semisweet chocolate
  • 300 ml whole milk
  • Irish Cream
  • Whipped cream

This is one of my favourite hot chocolates even though I don´t drink alcohol. It´s also rather easy to prepare. You again need to heat up the milk, add the cocoa powder, brown sugar and the chocolate and let it all come together. Now, for those of you who don´t want the volume of the alcohol, you can already add the irish cream to the pot while you heat it up. Alcohol evapurates at 90 degrees celsius so you won´t have any volume in this drink anymore. For those of you who like a little kick in your cocoa you would have to add the irish cream a minute after you poured the hot cocoa into your cup. Either way you, re gonna top it off with some whipped cream and drizzle a bit of caramel sauce on it. YAM!

4. Nutella Hot Chocolate

  • 1 Tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 – 2 Teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 1  Tablespoons Nutella
  • 300 ml whole milk
  • Mini Marschmallows
  • Whipped cream

Okay, this is one of the more trendy hot chocolate versions and since I am a total nutella nut I really have to recommend this amazing recipe to you.

All you need to do is heat up the milk and add all ingredients except the whipped cream and the marshmallows, stir it until it comes together nicely. Pour it into your favourite cocoa cup and add the marshmallows on top. As soon as they start to melt top them off with a lot of whipped cream and drizzle some chocolate sauce over it. This seriously is a to die for cup of cocoa!

5.  Santas Secret

  • 2 Tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 – 2 Teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 30g semisweet chocolate
  • 300 ml whole milk
  • Christmas spice mix
  • whipped cream
  • caramel sauce (either bought or homemade)

Now, I don´t want to brag but yes – I know Santa Clause! He is one of my christmas bro´s and that´s why he gave me his all time favourite hot cocoa recipe to share with you. Merry Christmas XD. To prepare your christmas in a cup all you need to do is heat up the milk, add the cocoa powder, sugar, chocolate and a bit of the christmas spice mix, stir constantly and pour it into your cup as soon as it is all combined nicely. Top it off with your whipped cream and drizzle caramel sauce over it. Et Voilá!

Now all you need is a cosy blanket and your favourite TV show and you are good to go for the winter 😉

Stay sweet and talk to you soon!
